Cabernet Espanol…

Though not normally known for Cabernet, Spain is producing all sorts of interesting wines right now.  This 2007 Vega Sindoa is no exception.  Priced around $12.99 (that is what I paid), one highly reputable critic compared this to Napa Cabernets at 2 or 3 times the price.  So I’ve had a chance to taste it and my verdict is…

Don’t compare this to Napa Cab 2 to 3 times the price, it just isn’t there.

However… this tastes like good, varietally correct, easy drinking cabernet.  I wouldn’t go pairing this with a delicious medium-rare ribeye, but would be a great wine for your friends coming over to watch that music-oriented television show you all get together for every week.  You know the one.

At $12.99 or so, this wine won’t knock your socks off, but it will be like that nice pair of wool socks you like to slip on when the air gets a little chilly.  Its smooth, easy-drinking, Cabernet that simply won’t offend anyone.  Just don’t go putting it next to a bottle of Worthy or Buehler.

What else do they make? I know I’ve had this bottle before, but I’m not sure it was Cab. I think your description’s good. I recall it not being offensive, but it was (clearly) not memorable. Still, at $12-13, you could do a lot worse.
